Ancillary Task Influences/Plans

Ancillary Task Influences/Plans

For my first ancillary task, I shall be creating a billboard, more than likely, I'll be creating one similar to the bus stop billboard, and as a back up option, I'll to "The Times". And as a very last resort/worst case scenario, I'll create a news vendor advertisement.

The bus stop billboard is my first choice, it has a simplistic colour pallet but it is effective in the way it can be noticed as "i", and it is eye catching enough to make you look. I also like how it the text has been inaugerated into the lettering. Another aspect that i find admirable about this design is that the layout is rather scarce but looks profesional; it's not clutered with infomation.

The wall billboard is a could idea, however it blends into the background and if I recreate this design it'll look professional, however it will be glazed over by the general public. The simplicity of the design above is admirable, however it is too dark, and if a white backgroud is used it will become dirty and need constant replacing; and that will cost the fictitious company that I'm creating too much money.

The news vendor is too simplistic, I'd much rather design a more complex design, don't get me wrong; I am normally the type to take the easier route, however this far too simplistic, it will be noticed that I'm  just being lazy and taking the option that needs the least effort.
The only reason why I have inclued this as an option, is so that it is known that I have covered all of my options.

The Journal, is not my first choice, however it does have a solid some what stereotypical and could be easily replicated and applied to my product.

Influential Example 1

Influential Example

I got the inspiration for my broadsheet from The Times Newspaper; in my opinion the layout is excellent as it has images of a celebrity, yet it doesn’t take attention away from the main headline. To me, that is the most important thing to do with the layout; yet another story that can relate to a wider audience.

Plan B

Plan B

My intentions are to create a broadsheet as I believe that news papers should contain solid facts and not rumours of which Kardashian sister is pregnant, or Paris Hilton's newest sex tape. However I've been told have a back up plan, so in the worst case scenario, I think, I'll create a catty, bitchy tabloid about the Sunderland/North East area.

I also need to take into consideration of if my files are lost or destroyed; I’d need to back up the files to flash drives, cyber space, etc.

Another aspect I’d need to think of is my  time management, since last year, everything was an unmotivated, paniced attempt as the deadline grew closer, I need to make a planner and keep to it, make my own deadlines etc. Hopefully this will help me with getting a better grade at the end of the year.

My schedule will posted as soon as I create it; which will hopefully be soon.

Flat Plans

Flat Plans

My intentions are to create a broadsheet as I believe that news papers should contain solid facts and not rumours of which Kardashian sister is pregnant, or Paris Hilton's newest sex tape. However I've been told have a back up plan, so in the worst case scenario, I think, I'll create a catty, bitchy tabloid about the Sunderland/North East area.

If I decide to go for the tabloid style of newspaper but with more world stories and less celeb-gossip, I believe that this will be the general design; if i come up with another layout, it'll be posted in due time.

If all goes the way as I intend to, I'll hopefully have an end product similar as this flat plan. The story I intend to have in this product are world and national stories and next to no celeb gossip. If i come up with another layout, it'll be posted in due time.

The Pitch

The Pitch

Proposal:

I am considering the local newspaper option, as I studied newspapers for the AS exam, so I think that I might be quite good at undertaking the newspaper option, as I already have an understanding of the subject and I enjoy watching the news and occasionally reading a broadsheet such as “The Times”.

Pitch:

Out of the two options the most likely one will be the newspaper, I‘d like to create a broadsheet paper and have it be based on world stories, national stories, local stories, business, sport, culture, and a touch of celeb gossip – however not too much as it could get labelled as being a tabloid and that is not my intention. The target audience would be aimed at socio-economic groups “C1” to “E”, and an age group of 16 to 50.

Inspirational Texts:

The Times is a British daily  national newspaper, it consists of stories on world news, national, business, sport, culture, celeb gossip, technology etc. It has a target audience of socio-economic code ABC1, and an age range of 25-55.

The I is tabloid size and stapled, which consists of 56 pages per issue. The paper contains articles on news, business and sports—small paragraphs of information which are expanded upon in full articles further on in the paper. It has a target audience of socio-economic code C1C2D, and an age range of 17-35.

The Guardian is a British daily national newspaper, it consists of stories on world news, national, business, sport, culture, celeb gossip, technology etc. It has a target audience of socio-economic code ABC1, and an age range of 25-55.

My Product:

I will need to take into consideration all of my options; that would include everything from how often the paper will be published, what agencies will be
used, the font, the colour scheme, layout, the name of the paper, whether it will have a cost – or be a free paper and have multiple advertisments.

I also have to think about these options for the website; the layout, colour scheme etc, also whether or not a customer will be charged to access the website for free or not, or if they only get a summarised story if they don’t pay.

I will have to consider subscriptions whether it will be linked to the website or if it is only for the paper, his conflict with the price (if any) of the paper.
